Photos from Calaway Park, Red Deer, Canmore, and Banff in Sept 2017

Full size
Here's Henry and Walter chilling in the living room. Natalia had put Walter down for a minute and
asked Henry to 'watch him for a minute', and when she got back he was playing with Walter with a toy.

Full size
This is a Hallowe'en costume that I wore when I was a kid. It's probably a bit too big right now
but still really funny.

Full size
Walter's fun winter outfit. He'll be our cute little bear.

Full size
I got a telescope from my company for making it 15 years. Henry was SO excited by the size of the
box that we HAD to assemble it right away! He mostly looked the wrong way down it, but he still
thought it was pretty cool.

Full size
Here he's adjusting the tripod stand.

Full size
Um, yeah, maybe for a bit older children.

Full size
Henry and Walter snuggling in the morning on the couch.

Full size
Henry and I like to go to the Parent Link Centre, and here he is making ice cream.

Calaway Park with Uriah

Full size
Henry got to bring his friend Uriah to Calaway Park for a fun afternoon. They're pretty well
decorated for Hallowe'en already.

Full size
Watching the Baja Buggies.

Full size
Henry and Uriah give the 'thumbs up' before riding the little train at the FRONT!

Full size
A wave from Uriah.

Full size
Henry and Uriah on the little roller coaster.

Full size
Henry, Uriah, Walter, and Natalia on the big train.

Full size
The boys on the ferris wheel balloon ride.

Full size
Natalia, Henry, and Walter rocking out the balloon ride.

Full size
The whole clan in the balloon.

Full size
Bringing an older kid meant that Henry felt a lot bolder. This was the first time he went on the
Dizzy Dragon ride.

Full size
Also the first (and maybe last) time for the Snoopy boat. This is where Uriah asked to have the
ride 'stop right now!'. Henry doesn't appear super happy either though.

Full size
The boys on the boat ride rocking the 'double steering wheels' move.

Full size
We finished the trip with a ride on the bumper cars. I think bringing other kids definitely emboldens
Henry to try more things and do more rides, which is a win.

Full size
Henry and Uriah with their witches' flying licenses.

Full size
Henry has two things he's excited about in this photo - a garbage truck and a popsicle.

Full size
We FINALLY have Walter okay with sitting in a high chair which is WAY better than holding him while we eat.

Full size
I finally just gave up and bought the ski polk new from MEC, since I'm hoping to get Walter out in this,
Henry out on his own skis, and Natalia can then ski relaxed-like. Henry was so jazzed to open the box and
see what it was, so we then had to immediately assemble it too.

Full size
Multi-modal transport.

Full size
We went for dinner at Maria and Michael's new place. Henry was excited to check out Michael's hog.

Full size
We went to an arts festival in Canmore, so of course Henry and Maria made some crafts. This one is
printed fabric to make a big Canada flag.

Full size
This one is spin bike painting where the big drives a spinner that your page is on.

Full size
But still, Henry prefers just throwing rocks into the river.

Red Deer for Grace's bday

Full size
Next we drove up to Red Deer to meet baby Jack and for Grace's bday. Here's Natalia and Jack.

Full size
Natalia bought these ludicrous bibs for the boys.

Full size
Danielle, even though she has a 1 month old and 2 'energetic' boys, made a sweet cake for Grace's bday.

Full size
Grace had a princess theme for her birthday, complete with cookies.

Full size
Grace sitting, ladylike, with Walter on the couch.

Full size
Henry was REALLY excited to come to Grace's party.

Full size
He was even MORE excited to have JUICE!

Walter and Henry just before playing in the snow. Matching hats and mitts courtesy of Janet and Rick.

Full size
Walter in his hat, actually smiling.

Climbing with Dan

Full size
Since Dan did his rock climbing course, he's been jonesing to get on some real rock. I had a short window
while in Banff and Dan was super flexible. Here he is checking out the rock on Rundle near the start
of Rundlehorn , although we didn't realize it at the time. For future reference, Banff Rock calls out
the trad route as Rundlehorn .

Full size
A look at the start of the trad route.

Full size
Dan using his brand new ATC (he kept calling it an ATV...).

Full size
Looking down from the top of pitch 1. It's a pretty easy approach from the golf course in Banff.

Full size
Dan climbing up on the 2nd pitch, which was more like the 2nd/3rd/4th pitch since there was exactly one bolt
between the start of the pitch and 65 m into space... Yeah, as mentioned, this was a trad route.

Full size
Dan at the top of the trad route on the bottom of Rundlehorn with a nice look at Cascade.

Full size
Another cool pose from Dano looking at Cascade. After screwing around on lead for awhile, I decided that this
wasn't the route for us, so we rapped off the ridge at this point and tried to find the actual start of
Rundlehorn.

Full size
Which we did. 5 super quick pitches took us to the scramble section, but at that point, we had lost our light.

Full size
The Bow Valley in the fall with Dan on Rundlehorn .

Full size
Rapping off the route. I thought this crack/seam was pretty sweet.

A pretty funny GPS track, since GPS doesn't track on vertical rock that well

Full size
Morning light on Sulphur Mountain with Dan excited to try Dancing Sasquatch

Full size
It's never possible to get the exact morning light right with a digital camera, but the light behind
Dan was stellar.

Full size
Dancing Sasquatch is a SUPER FAST route accessible from the Surprise Turn pull-off in Banff townsite.
The topo calls out an hour car-to-car and they weren't lying.

Full size
Dan on pitch 1.

Full size
Working through a neat sequence.

Full size
About here the sun came out and lit up the day.

Full size
So, after three quick pitches, similar to surgery, watch one, do one. So, here is Dan trying his first
outdoor multi-pitch lead.

Full size
Almost a full pitch off the deck.

Full size
A neat traverse section on pitch 3. Thanks Dan for taking the short climbing window I had!
