Natalia joined me for her first ski tour day at Black Prince in Kananaskis.

Black Prince Interpretive Trail

Full size
We rented Natalia equipment from the U of C outdoor centre and took a short drive to the Black Prince
trailhead on the Spray Lakes trail. Here is Natalia in her sweet soft shell jacket at the car.

Natalia at the start of the trail.

I thought this bridge was pretty cool. Natalia had no problem handling her skis at all.

Full size
Due to some interesting snow, humidity, and weather patterns, the trees on this trail had massive ice
crystals growing on them. Natalia stopped to try some out.

Full size
She liked the taste of these huge ice crystals.

Full size
We stopped for a bite at the point where the trail came back together.

Full size
The cirque at the top of the trail was just becoming visible.

Full size
This big bowl looked like a possibility for skiing, but when we got closer, we decided to back down
and do some gentler slopes.

Full size
When we left the city, it was ~-20, but here in the mountains, it was a balmy -8 deg C. I love
temperature inversions! Natalia and I had just gotten to the little lake at the top of the
trail.

Full size
Natalia making her way across the lake. I thought the pillows of snow looked pretty neat here.

Full size
Even though the light is dark, I like this photo looking back across the valley.

As we were getting up towards the snow slopes, Natalia whispered really loud - "Paul, there's something
up ahead, I think it's a moose or a bear." It turned out to be a moose grazing in the meadows. We
though immediately of our friend Allison who hasn't ever seen a moose and hence isn't a real
Canadian! Just kidding, Allison.

Full size
This hanging bowl along with the slide path next to it looks decent, but I'm quite sure the actual
ski slopes are on the north side of the lake. We just didn't find them.

Full size
This small pass looked interesting to explore too.

Full size
Natalia is making her way up the short slope we skied. Her comments were, "Hmm, ski touring is
a whole lot of going up for not a lot of going down." Yup, that's about right Nati. You grow
to enjoy the going up though. The steep line behind Natalia had ski tracks in it. Wow!

I also like this photo of Natalia.

Tannis' wedding

Full size
I didn't really take a lot of photos at Tannis and Dave's wedding. I took one of Brian and Annie
from Whitehorse that I think is funny. I like the look on both of their faces in this one.

Full size
This is a much nicer photo. Brian and Annie, we look forward to visiting with you in the Yukon in
March! Yay, thanks for the invite!
