Here are some photos of Scott and Amy over for Scott's birthday, hanging out in Nanaimo
with Jason and Avie and Donni and Karl, along with the Calgary Stampede with Paul and
Allison.

Scott's Birthday

Full size
Scott and Amy came over for Scott's birthday and they brought over their lovely daughter Lucy.
Here she is chilling on the living room rug.

Full size
Here's Scott opening his card wearing his birthday goggles.

Natalia went to town with the birthday decorations. The award ribbon is pretty awesome.

Full size
Lucy had no interest in wearing Scott's glasses.

Hanging in Nanaimo, BC with Donni and Karl, and Jason and Avie

Full size
Natalia, Donni, and I went to check out the Canada Day celebrations in Nanaimo. It was definitely
a people-watching event for all involved, as most things are in Nanaimo.

Full size
Nati and Donni with the blow-up fun toys at the event.

Full size
This was taken just before this kid almost knocked over the performance artist who was working
hard to stack rocks in very delicate ways.

Full size
Our friends from Oregon, Jason and Avie, decided to include Nanaimo in their summer road trip
plans. Here they are in their campground with their sons Porter and Oliver.

Full size
Natalia bought the boys sidewalk chalk and they had fun drawing all over their campground.
Avie is drawing a giant dinosaur.

Full size
Here are Porter and Oliver enjoying hanging out in the bay.

Full size
Oliver really liked the steamed milk that his mom got for him. It's all over his milk moustache.

Calgary Stampede with Paul and Allison

Full size
Our friends from Oregon, Paul and Allison, came to Calgary to visit and to enjoy the Calgary Stampede.
One of the fun activities we did was to rent tandem bikes and cruise around. Here's Paul piloting
their bike around the university.

Full size
Paul thinks tandem bikes are super cool.

Full size
Paul and Allison look like they're ready for a bike brawl. LOOK MEAN!

Full size
Paul and I took the opportunity to do the zipline and the bobsled at the Canada Olympic Park.
While the zipline was cool, it took about an hour longer than it should have. Here's Paul looking
like he's all man, while holding his trolley.

Full size
It's hard to take him seriously wearing an orange helmet.

Full size
So, the zipline at COP goes from the top of the skijump (used at the Olympics and not since)
to the bottom. Paul is hanging out at the top waiting his turn to zip.

Full size
This is the view looking down from the top of the ski jump. I just can't imagine building up
the courage to jump.

Full size
Look at the length of these skis!

Full size
Paul looks very afraid of 'The Monster'.

Full size
All belted up, ready to go. Who's going to finish first? We had a tail wind so they actually
kitted us out with parachutes so that we didn't go so fast.

Video of us on the zipline

Full size
The next stop on our whirlwind of fun was to check out the bobsled track. They actually custom make
bobsleds with wheels so that they can go down the track in the summer when the cooling plant isn't on.
Here's Paul getting a feel for the bobsled. Again, this operation could have been more efficient.

Full size
COP was operating just one bobsled on the day we went so they'd finish the course, then load up the
bobsled into a truck and bring it back up. The lady in the spandex is actually a member of Canada's
female bobsled team, and she's helping them bring the bobsled and load it up.

Video of a start of a summer bobsled

Full size
This is what the bobsled track looks like under the cement. These pipes get filled with coolant and
then it ices up the surface.

Full size
Here I am showing off my bobsled-pushing prowess.

Full size
It would be weird sitting inside one of these things in the winter with no grill and just chilling
while the driver steers the sled.

Full size
Paul is showing that he can push as well.

Full size
The inside of the sled actually had seat belts in it.

Full size
So, it turns out that we were added to a pair of ladies who were part of a stagette party
so they're dressed up like superheroes.

Full size
The start of the course.

Video from inside the bobsled

Full size
We took Paul and Allison to the Calgary Stampede. Here are Natalia and I dressed up
as cowboys at the rodeo.

Full size
Here are Paul and Allison sitting next to us. Thankfully, we had seats out of the direct sunshine
as the day was pretty warm.

Full size
I thought Joe Asian Cowboy was pretty awesome. The crazy thing is I think he was for real.

Full size
Check out this guy's mustache!

Full size
Paul was super excited to find a chunk of deep fried dough covered in ice cream and chocolate sauce.
YUMMY!

Full size
The chuckwagons make their way out into the grandstand.

Full size
The evening show with Paul Brandt was pretty impressive. Some pretty serious fireworks to
mark the 100th anniversary.

Here are the Young Canadians in the finale.
