Photos from climbing in Squamish and some hiking

Climbing at Squamish

Full size
We had an opportunity to be in Vancouver for business with our colleague Ben and so we decided
to blast up the Sea to Sky to get some granite love in. My favourite part of this trip is that
Carl claims to have asked me if he needed to bring shoes. I of course thought he meant dress shoes
and said no. So, he ONLY brought climbing shoes. This meant even with a short approach at Murrin
Park, he walked barefoot up to the crag. Nice work Carl. Ben's laughing here as am I.

I was planning on leading an easy 5.8 to get started, but it was busy, so I wound up on a 5.10
instead. Here is Carl trying out his luck.

Ben got to try out a sweet 5.11 on the same wall by moving the anchors. Nice high step!

Lovely granite face climbing.

Ben naturally crushed this climb.

Carl got to try a 5.7 trad route that we had a rope dangling on. He held onto this flake so
hard I thought he was going to rip it off the rock.

Golfing at K country

Full size
Since Carl's boss came to town, this was a great opportunity to try out the freshly re-opened
K country golf course. Here's Dennis with the Wedge behind him.

We went to a Stampede party at the Shriners and this guy showed up!

Climbing with Carl at Cougar Creek

Full size
We had a short sun window so rather than going to the gym, I took Carl for some outdoor fun at
Cougar Creek. This is a look from on rappel up the canyon, which I think looks at a sub-peak of
Mt Fable.

This was only Carl's third time climbing outdoors and he really liked it. This is a 5.9 sport
route

Full size
Carl thought it was neat and wanted photos - I keep telling him that climbing photos are mostly
butt shots unless you set them up.

Quick run up Mt Baldy

Full size
I had a narrow window between lightning storms so I took it and went for a short hike up Mt Baldy.
This is the view across Barrier Lake.

This storm made me VERY happy that I was off the rocks by the time it came in. A note here is that
I went car-to-car in 2hr 20mins. I left the house at noon and was back by 4:15pm, and I stopped for
gas, Gatorade, and chips on the way back. Whoop whoop!
