My buddy Dan and I took a quick morning before work to run up the West Baldy route in K-country.

Dan and I took an early start from Calgary/Cochrane to get a quick run in prior to work one day in June.
This is about ~300m vertical elevation up the west Baldy ridge. Our target is right above Dan on the
skyline. It's rated as 'difficult' in the Nugara book, but the risk here was more rain/snow on the
rocks/ridge.

After clearing the tree line, the ridge got a bit rockier. You can see Dan in the middle of this
photo getting into it.

This is a bit of a sense of some of the scrambling surface here. Mostly crumbly limestone which
is the bulk of what we face in the southern Canadian Rockies.

Full size
Dan making his way around a bit of a crux in the route. We decided to go around the main crux
here since we didn't like the wetness of the rock and the incoming storm. To be fair, going
around the crux I think may have been just as challenging as the main crux.

The non-crux crux portion of this scramble. It's less steep than it looks. I think Dan tried to
make his phone make this look steeper.

A look from the west ridge looking over to the south summit. The lighter brown colour with snow
in the drainage is our eventual exit.

Yours truly on the summit of West Baldy. You can see the weather on its way in.

From the West Baldy summit, we dropped back down to the West/South col, which involved some light
scrambling as well. Again, I was really happy the rain held up until we got back down into the forest.

Full size
There's still definitely snow in the mountains here. The elevation is only ~2100 m here.

The exit we took from West Baldy comes down the ridge on the left side of this photo.
