We sent Natalia away for a weekend and the boys had fun. Here is the proof.

We started off our Saturday with the Bike Cochrane and Cochrane Kiwanis Bike Safety Rodeo. Here are
Walter and Henry with Wes at our new tent before the event started.

Some of Cochrane's finest showing the kids the rules of the road and getting around on their bikes.

And then they got to try out the bike park.

Full size
My friend Graham and his kids were able to get in on the 10am time slot and came away with bike bells,
bike safety knowledge, and best of all - cookies to celebrate the grand opening of our Launchpad bike park!

Full size
Walter was excited to show his friend Fisher how to play cards at our house.

Full size
After crushing it in the backyard playing with the water table, we loaded the boys up for a canoe ride
at Winchell Lake north of town. The boys enjoyed the leeches and playing in the water more than the canoe
ride, but that's to be expected.

Graham gives Winchell Lake a 'thumbs up' for awesomeness.

Full size
The boys got to hop out of the canoe and play on the dock for awhile, which they thought was cool.
I was a bit surprised that Henry had the guts to jump out, but he did it.

Full size
Graham decided that a cannonball was in order, so he loaded it up and crushed it.

Full size
When I later asked the boys their favourite part of the day, they both said 'Graham's cannonball!' so
it clearly impressed them.

Full size
Pretty easy to enjoy this outing honestly.

Full size
I had thrown in beach toys into the car prior to leaving the house, and that plus a beer in a cooler
made us feel like we were 'Hero Dads' on this day.

Full size
We finished with pizza at Papa Luigi's, which was stellar, even though it was well past the boys' bedtimes
by the time we left. Solid work by Graham for being an awesome Dad and bringing his kids all the way
to Cochrane for a fun day out with Dads.

Walter wanted a photo of this sculpture in the shape of a horse head.

Meanwhile, this was what Natalia was doing in Canmore.

Nice day in the mountains.

Full size
So, if I gave my day with the boys a 10/10 for the day with Graham, I think I barely earned a 3/10 on this
session. We started with the intention of going to the Heart Creek caves or bunker, but 10m into the trail,
we saw a bear and promptly bailed. Then, we went across the highway to Lac des Arcs for a lunch picnic instead
which kind of worked, but Walter had a meltdown and refused to ride his bike. So, we played in the rocks
for a while first.

Full size
Then we went for a bike ride to find a picnic spot, which ended early when wasps showed up at the picnic
table, so we ate quickly at the playground, and went a bit further down the road to Bow Valley PP. This was
supposed to be an easy walk around Middle Lake, but the lake was closed due to the next video.

Full size
Now, don't get me wrong, the boys were thrilled to watch a fire helicopter pick up water from
the lake. But we were now 0/3 on ideas from Daddy and most people would have given up and driven
home. I thought we'd try one more attempt at something fun in the mountains.

Full size
So, we tried out Many Springs Lake, and this was a big success AFTER getting the boys out of the car
and walking around the lake. This was a cool bridge that the boys liked.

Full size
Henry with a nice look at Goat Mountain and Yamnuska too.

Full size
At the end of the walk around the lake, there's a neat viewpoint dock that is right by one of the
bubbling springs. The boys stayed here for ~30 minutes looking at the bubbles and playing in the water.
Of course, I told Walter not to jump into the lake, which he proceeded to do as I was getting their drinking
water out of the backpack. Thankfully, his brother grabbed him and I pulled him back up.

Playing in the lake.

Full size
So, I'd score myself a 1/4 on attempts for this day, but at least it wasn't a zero.

Full size
When we got home, we had to wash off the soap bubbles from Walter spraying them all over the car, while
Daddy loaded up bikes at the bike rodeo. But, Henry likes the pressure washer so it was a win.

Full size
I even had a helper helping me wash too!
