This year my family decided to host 'camping' at Elkwater, even though it's
properly 'cabining'. We rented the 'Alpine' cabins, not the rustic ones
and while the space here was good (2 bedroom units with kitchenettes), the amount of
sharp concrete and cement meant that it wasn't terrific for toddlers to run around.
Video of my Mom being sung to for her birthday
My sister Danielle made a carrot cake with cream cheese icing for my Mom.
Henry and Grace love spending time together and here they are sharing a camp chair.
We took the kids for a walk and went to the lake. The lake is actually quite nice here, although it's
basically bald prairie to the north and beautiful evergreens to the south. A bit of an odd piece
of geography actually.
Here's Landon looking at a dead snake while Grace and Kale look on.
So did Henry and Grace - note the massive number of Smarties.
Walter making a run for the lake
I've never seen this plant before. It starts out green and fuzzy in these pods, turns more reddish,
and then turns black, sometimes even on the same plant! Henry and I picked a couple of these to
try to identify them but then something else shinier came up.
Walter was looking pretty cute in his track suit top so I got a photo of him here.
Natalia took this of Walter feeling pretty proud up on a chair on his own. He's also holding
onto hotel shampoo with a death grip and wouldn't give it up for anything.
My whole family, complete with kids and crazies. Check out the look on Henry's face here.
I think he's expecting a werewolf at any time. I had borrowed my friend Graham's camera but
really should have spent more time working with it prior to the photo shoot.
Grace and Henry making bath balms with my sister Danielle.
Likely, the best photo of this set, minus Kale's smile. As you can imagine, it's REALLY hard
to get 8 children looking at the same place at the same time.
I love this photo since Henry finally stopped holding Walter back and he made a run for it. Some of
the other couple of hundred photos are equally hilarious, but not really printable due to eyes closed
heads not looking, etc.
We tried a seated photo, but even with that, this spot was too bright for Henry.
We tried over near the side of our cabin, but this wasn't terrific either.
