We are proud to announce the birth of Henry Andrew Perrault on Saturday Dec 14, 2013 at 3:20am.
He's a healthy 7 lb baby, with Banda colouring, Danish limbs and massive hands!
Mom and baby are doing great and we're enjoying getting to know our new little guy.
A special thanks also to our amazing doula Michèle who made everything so much less scary, and who stopped Paul from screwing up!
We also have these great photo keepsakes courtesy of Michèle too. Thanks so much MMC!

The night that Natalia started to go into labour, she decided it would be fun to get one more photo of her 'bump'
shirt next to our Christmas tree. Did I mention that prior to Henry arriving, Natalia cooked/baked everything for
Christmas, including pre-making 25 meals (thanks Danielle!), bought and wrapped all of our Christmas presents,
and got the whole house ready? Yeah, that's my wife!

Full size
Here are Natalia and I as she's getting checked into her labour and delivery room. We REALLY loved the Rockyview
Hospital, the staff, and the ease of parking and getting around. Yes, it was a 35 minute drive from our house, but
the experience was wonderful. This room also had a view of the mountains. True story.

After Henry was born, he needed a little bit of pediatric clean-up since he had dropped the biggest load ever in-utero.
Here's the excellent nursing staff giving him some love.

Natalia and I with Henry. I love the fact that he immediately put his long arms around his Mom's neck.

Full size
We couldn't get enough photos like this.

Full size
Henry is working on his lungs here. He could also be singing along to the Christmas music that we played for the entire labour.
Yes, Natalia loves Christmas music.

Full size
And here as well. I used to think that I would never enjoy the sound of a baby crying. Well, no one ENJOYS it,
but to all future dads out there, it's WAY more manageable when it's yours.

Full size
Sometime here, I finally stopped sobbing. I was just so happy, it's hard to put into words.

Full size
More happy new family photos.

Full size
I think I said something like, "Well, we've got to keep him now. There's no way he's fitting back
where he came out." Yeah, I'm classy like that.

Full size
For those who know me, it won't be too much of a surprise that I dorked out a little on both the technology
and the biology of the birth. I may have actually used the phrase 'posterior cervix' in proper context.

Full size
This wasn't Henry's favourite pose, but it was a great suggestion by Michèle. Here he is with his own birth weight.

Full size
I couldn't get over how big his feet are. Let it also be said that in addition to Michèle commenting about it, multiple
other nurses commented on his muscle tone. "I've never seen quads on a baby before" was a common comment. Well, ladies
that's what happens when Mom pukes for the first 7 months, and then gets put on a protein-and-vegetable diet for the
last two months of pregnancy. I know that Natalia would've preferred DQ ice cream cake and Oreos, but here's the result.

Here's Henry trying to pull himself up on my hand. That's the first pull-up of this climber's life!
Henry also has big hands, which equally bodes well for climbing.

Full size
When they put Natalia on oxytocin, they asked her to take off her wedding rings. Since her ring finger is the same
size as my pinky, I just put them on my hand for safekeeping. A lot of nurses commented that they liked my bling.

He started settling down after this point.

Full size
As you can see, Henry has more hair than I've had in 20 years. I hope he got Natalia's dad's hair.

Full size
Here's his little face.

I'm pretty happy here to be holding my new son.

Full size
Somehow, the nurses knew EXACTLY what Natalia wanted to eat - toast with PB and jam! She was pretty stoked to start
getting some food into her belly at this point. I think it's roughly 5 AM in this photo, so time for breakfast!

Full size
I was encouraged to have 'skin-on-fur' time to help Henry's body temperature stabilize. I think I definitely heated him up.

Full size
After they put erythromycin into Henry's eyes and vitamin K, and Natalia had some time to eat, Nati got to go for a shower
before we were moved to post-partum. Here she is holding Henry in a wheelchair.

For anyone wanting to second-guess the baby pool, here's the raw data.

Once we go to our post-partum room, Natalia got settled, the nurses helped her out, and I got kicked out.
Thanks to Erin and Chad for letting me stay at their place for a few hours (literally across the street from the
hospital). Later that day, Michèle came back for some newborn snuggles.

Full size
Natalia had the foresight to buy two Crave cupcakes - one with blue icing and one with pink icing, since we didn't
know the gender. She wanted to have a fresh cupcake for baby's 0th birthday. Here we are celebrating the 0th birthday.

The nursery nurse helped us bathe Henry for the first time before we were discharged. Here he is on a heating
pad, drying off from the bath. I'm sure Nati would love a heating pad like this, but full-size!

Here's Henry in the bassinet in our post-partum room.

The nurse in the nursery (Tatiana) had Natalia pick out a hat for Henry. Naturally, due to the time of year,
Natalia chose a cute Christmas-coloured hat. Check out the wicked 'Rockyview' swaddle on him! I'm working to be
a swaddle ninja, but I have some work to do.

Full size
For whatever reason, Natalia found it REALLY funny that I changed Henry's first diaper. In the words of the experienced
post-partum nurse, "Um, yeah, that's DEFINITELY the stinkiest newborn baby diaper I've EVER smelled!" Nice work Henry.
That's a badge of honour.

Here's Henry on a cute receiving blanket that my Mom made.

Full size
Once we got home from the hospital (after driving through the worst snowstorm I can remember), it was about 10:30pm at night.
Both Natalia and I were pretty beat, but Henry was ready to party. He kept us up a fair amount of that first night home, but we
were so happy to have him home with us that we were okay with it. He's in the little bassinet in our room in this photo.

Full size
Here he is on our bed.

Full size
I surprise myself how much I enjoy just hanging out with Henry sleeping/cuddling on me. Yes, I'm a giant suck.

Full size
Natalia's friend Erin came over to meet Henry the second day we were home. She wanted a photo by the tree.
