More photos of our trip to Italy. From here on, these photos are from one of the most
beautiful parts of the world - Cinque Terre, Italy!

Full size
Natalia and I did what most backpackers do on trains in Europe - we drank wine!

Full size
Here's Natalia looking out the window of our home on the water in Vernazza. This opens up to
a beautiful terrace overlooking the ocean.

Full size
Here is our terrace looking out on the Mediterranean. You can see lemon trees below us.

Full size
This is the view up the rocky shores from our terrace. I love how people here just build right
into the rock.

Full size
This is the view down to the cove below our terrace.

Full size
In order to make the hillsides arable, the Italians have been terracing the land for many years.

Full size
The town of Vernazza is quite beautiful and is stuck right alongside the ocean. As a function of that
they don't have a lot of room for luxuries, like sidewalks or roads. This is the walkway to our
rental for our stay.

Full size
Natalia with the town of Vernazza and the bay below her. We were out for a walk before dinner.

Full size
I give the town of Vernazza the Paul Perrault stamp of approval.

A map of Cinque Terre and the main hiking trail in blue.

Full size
Natalia and I chose to walk the Sentiero #2, which connects all five of the towns of the Cinque Terre.
Here is Natalia hiking from Vernazza to Corniglia.

Full size
Here is Natalia stopping to smell the flowers.

Full size
I set up my camera to take a photo of us. Unfortunately, it's a little dark.

Full size
There were some random stray cats on the trail that the Italians feed. I think these cats get fed better than
we do.

Full size
A nice photo of Natalia with the hiking trail behind her.

Full size
Nati and I and some sweet power lines.

Full size
Natalia with the town of Corniglia below her.

Full size
Photo of both of us.

Full size
We had someone else on trail take this photo.

Full size
I think the buildings in their bright pastels just look so awesome.

Full size
Natalia with a close-up of some terracing.

Full size
A postcard-worthy photo of the town of Corniglia. The only thing missing is my thumb.

Full size
Not shockingly, Natalia found more gelato.

Full size
Look at this smile!

Full size
This is the view looking down from Corniglia down to the ocean. It's tough, but I'll take it.

Full size
I don't know what this is, so I took a photo for Natalia's dad to help me decipher.

Full size
Here you can see the wild nature of the stairwells as they make their way down to the water.

Full size
Natalia is smiling here since she knows it's lunch time. We took our picnic stop here.

Full size
A nice glamour shot of Natalia.

Full size
Natalia and I looking back at Corniglia from near Manarola.

Full size
Natalia with the beautiful town of Manarola.

Full size
Nati and I took a stroll down Via dell' Amore (Lover's Walk) between Manarola and Rio Maggiore.

Full size
We figured when in Rome (or on the Via dell'Amore!)...

Full size
I thought this was cute.

Full size
We took the train back to the far side of the area, to the beach town of Monterrosso al Mare. I
took this photo for my brother in law Eric since he enjoys speedos so much.

Full size
A nice panoramic shot of Natalia and the Ocean. She can't say too much since her husband took her
to the Italian Riviera! However, it was in April...

Full size
Natalia dipping her feet in the Mediterranean Sea.

Full size
After all of the gelato Natalia had over the trip, it turns out that chocolate wound up being her
favourite kind after all.

Full size
Natalia is looking back at Monterrosso and wishing the trails would just keep going!

Full size
I told Natalia about my first trip I took here where I took a photo under this bridge with Jason
Leuschen. Natalia thought that trolls lived under here so she's pretending that she's a troll.

Full size
The view looking back to Monterrosso is quite magnificent.

Full size
Nati thought this tree was quite nice.

Full size
Again, with the petals for identification.

Full size
More cats on the trails.

Full size
It's really too bad that this photo is so dark as the view below us is quite striking.

Full size
Here is a much better photo of us. Natalia tells me that I need to take more photos without my
sunglasses on so there you go.

Full size
Vernazza, Cinque Terre, Italy.

Video of the view into Vernazza, Italy

Full size
Kind of a cool photo. From this alleyway leads out onto Vernazza' main town square.

Full size
This is the life for sure.

Full size
I think I could get used to this.

Full size
Natalia likes taking photos of her feet when they're painted.

Full size
Yup, I can definitely support this.

Full size
Vernazza town square with Natalia posing in front of the main church. Every hour the bells toll
and there's at least 3 other clocks going off somewhere in the town.

Full size
I love the homemade pasta in Italy. This one is called trofie I think and was served with some of the
best pesto I've ever had. I sincerely crave the pesto from Italy every time I sit down for pasta.

Full size
Here is my glorious wife enjoying her last day in Cinque Terre.

Full size
I took this photo for Natalia's sister Donni.

Full size
We took the train back to Florence to catch our morning flight home to Canada. Here is a gorgeous
shot of sunset in Florence along the Arno River.

Full size
We had a great meal at this wild boar restaurant. Natalia ordered exclusively in Italian and the
waiter actually complimented her on her accent (while working on his tip...). This is a nice
caprese salad to start.

Full size
A ravioli appetizer.

Full size
And I think this was some kind of lemon pork dish.

Full size
Here is the wild boar that this place is known for.

Full size
Since Air Canada hadn't really treated Natalia well on the way over (about a 12 hour delay), karma decreed
that we should be upgraded on the way home. Natalia enjoyed the higher end of living ("I can eat the whole
chocolate bar??!!") and actually slept on the flight back from Frankfurt to Calgary.
