A whole crew of the Rock Squad took a tour up to Leavenworth, WA to celebrate the long weekend, to climb
some rock, and to eat some German food.

But, first, a few pictures of the sweetest muddler in the history of muddling! This is a wonderful gift from my friend Charles
Alexander. The core is called bloodwood, the next layer is walnut and I think the outer layer is cherry.

Climbing in Leavenworth, WA

Full size
This trip was the first one for Gladys - my new 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid. It was also her first ticket... but we won't talk
about that. The Gormans and Mr Disko graced me with their presence on the trip down. Here are the Gormans on our first morning
in Leavenworth.

Jordan, Amanda Hoffus, Adam King, and I trekked all the way up to the Puzzle Palace to get ourselves warmed up on some sweet
granite. Here Adam is just about to lead Cryptogram , a sweet 5.10a.

Adam, with what **could** be called a gratuitous heel hook about 30 feet off the deck.

Nice light on Adam on Cryptogram .

On the way down from the really long approach trail up to Puzzle Palace, we stopped at Clem's Holler to
climb on a roof that I wanted to do since the last time I saw it, called Gun Rack . It goes at 5.9
and it's all there, but the long roof makes it a little bold. Here's a zoomed in shot of Jordan Disko
making a run at it.

Jordan, smoothly exiting the roof.

Amanda Hoffus, doing a ball check, before she also redpoints Gun Rack .

The second day, we decided to try our luck on the Fourth of July Rock. Adam King put up a really stiff
5.10b called Beer and Loafing in Leavenworth and also (since he's a great guy) placed my first bolt
on Facelift , thereby allowing us to climb for the day. This is Bill Righter cranking on Beer .

A glamour shot of Paul Dehaan belaying.

Tony and Ramona Astor also came up with us to Leavenworth. This is Tony clipping the crux on Facelift .
Nothing like a few style points!

Full size
Amanda Hoffus is shown here flying up the 5.awkward climb called Return of the Bolt Fairy . This is also
a nice view down Icicle Canyon. This climb was made a little harder by the presence of rattlesnakes at the bottom of
the rock.

You can just see the top of the Enchantments in the top right of this shot.

The crew of us enjoying a hot morning at the Fourth of July Rock. Ramona and Serene are down by the rattlesnakes
along with Keri Gorman. Jordan Disko and I are belaying, and Chris Gorman is getting ready to climb.

The next few pictures are a bit of an experiment in light. Amanda is TRing the 5.11a that Adam extended from the other bolts,
called Just the Facts, Ma'am . It was REALLY tough, and I don't think it's really leadable.

The last bulge on this climb was also tough.

Hanging out and belaying Adam as he climbed the second 5.11 of this day.

After a hot day on the rock, we went down to a sweet swimming hole near the bouldering area called the Beach.
There were salmon jumping everywhere, the sand was perfect, and it's just an amazing spot to be. That's
Ramona's bum as she's joining Serene, Amanda, and Adam at the top of this granite rock.

Full size
A better view of the larger area around the swimming hole.

Full size
The water here wasn't warm, but since Keri Gorman jumped in, I kind of had to as well. We hung out and ate
Triscuits while Serene and Ramona enjoyed the water.

I took some video of the amazing jumping salmon, but it really doesn't do it justice. The next time we're in Leavenworth this
time of year, we'll have to make sure we're at this swimming hole around 4:30pm since the salmon were EVERYWHERE!

Allison is such an excellent girlfriend, she brought a cake all the way from Portland to celebrate Paul Dehaan's birthday.
It was also Amanda's birthday, so we got to do a combo party.

One of the weirder things I've heard was the sound of this rabbit as it died at the mouth of Adam's dog.
It was sort of like squeezing a squeaky toy. Adam decided that it seemed appropriate to skin the rabbit.
If I were him, I think Amanda would've found a few rabbit's feet all over the van, but that's just me and Adam's
much nicer than I am.

We found a German clothing shop since I was in a shopping mood. Jordan found this sweet jacket.

Full size
And Keri found this great German beer wench outfit, along with Serene who found a cute little German kid's outfit.
Once I get the pictures from Saturday night, I'll have a much nicer pair of liederhosen to post (Bill Righter).

Full size
After breakfast, we did a little bouldering near the Beach and finally found our way to the actual beach, this time with some sun
left on the rocks. Here is Tony Astor enjoying a perfect day.

Full size
Serene is quite a strong swimmer and was able to swim all the way to the sun bathing rock with help from
both her mom and her water wings.

Full size
A great shot of Keri, Serene, and Ramona doing a group doggie paddle.

I took a video of this tough one move V3 that Ramona and I didn't finish (for next time) - VIDEO

Full size
We stopped in at Miner's Drive-In, which was an experience to say the least. Here Jordan is exclaiming how large this place is!

Full size
We ate outside and they brought our dinners to us, helpfully marked by these big fly-swatters.

Full size
I don't know of a lot of restaurants that build dining rooms for general purpose use.

and just a little greasy.

Check out the inside of my "Taco Burger"! Yum Yum!! Smell the indigestion. I blame the Taco Burger for my
speeding ticket, although I'm not entirely sure how. This was also the evening that we found out Steve Irwin had passed away.
