As a surprise, I booked Natalia and I a place at the Chateau Lake Louise. We skied at Lake Louise on
Saturday and checked out the ice festival on Sunday. Just another great weekend in paradise, and no, not in PA.

Natalia and I got a day of skiing in at Lake Louise and then hung out at the Ice Magic ice carving
festival. This is Natalia with the lake behind her. The sculptures were done in between the hotel and the lake.

The theme for the ice festival was Snow Queen. Ice Fairies, and the Enchanted Forest. More about the
show here: Official site .

The sculptors used electric chainsaws, routers, Dremel tools, and hand saws to do their sculpting.

This is going to be Thumbelina. This was my favourite sculpture.

I guess they do this every year, but I enjoyed the ice castle on the lake. It's right on the skating rink
so people skate in and out of it and take pictures all over.

They somehow manage to paint the ice surface to add the Fairmont logo to their sculptures.

The theme of this sculpture was alligator pie. This alligator wound up inside an ice pie.

Nati and I smuggled in a bottle of her favourite wine and we enjoyed it while watching the carvers work.

I thought Renee would like this: a big group of Asian tourists.

Since I didn't really give Nati a great introduction to cross-country skiing, I figured we'd try again. We rented
skis and headed across the lake. Here Natalia shows us her moves.

Full size
We skied over to Louise Falls. The ice was definitely in and there were a few teams climbing.

Nati and I decided to climb up to the base of the ice and glissade down.

The hotel also offers horse-drawn sleigh rides out to the end of the lake.

Natalia loves snowflakes. These were about 6 inches high.

Full size
This one was much larger than 6 inches. It was definitely worth the trip!
