I wound up joining my friend Jay M for a day at Lake Louise in March 2018.
While the conditions weren't amazing at the resort (icy in the morning and flat light)
the company was excellent, and I got to take a short tour up Purple Bowl with Jay's buddy Craig.
Here's Jay's buddy Craig. Massive kudos to him for pushing through what sounded like an epic hangover
to come join me for a poke around in the snow. This is on the uptrack. Most people just boot-pack this
but I'd say the skin track is more efficient. Total time from top of chair to top of Lipalian (or
entrance to Purple Bowl) was about an hour.
Looking back at the Larch chair in the foreground and the Ptarmigan chair in the background.
Skin track with a few plodders boot-packing up the 'elevator shaft'.
Here's Craig making his way up the last bits on the sastrugi. It's too bad we had had a wind event the
night before because the north aspect here skied really well where it wasn't wind-hammered.
Looking back along Wolverine Ridge, and back to the resort.
Craig says, "Why did I do this to myself??"
Just before dropping into some nice snow at the col. The next time I'm up here, the better entrance is
actually a bit higher and has a longer fall line, but we couldn't really tell over the roll so took
the safer out.
