Since the speed of the Earth around the sun is what it is, I turned 40 this year. We decided
to host a party at the Half Hitch and join in their Oktoberfest with some of my favourite
people in Cochrane, Calgary, and beyond.
First some Henry and Walter photos
Boys having fun in basement
We got a decent dump of snow on this weekend. On the Saturday morning, we had already had a few cm,
meaning the boys wanted to get outside and play in it in their bathrobes.
A better look at the snow that came down.
Grandma G reading to the boys at our house.
Scotty took me for lunch and a climb in Canmore for my birthday. We went to the new Grizzly Paw
Brewery building, which is gorgeous, and their high-end kitchen, that's definitely nicer than a pub
lunch by a long shot (they don't even serve fries!).
Oktoberfest and Paul's birthday at the Half Hitch
Henry wearing my Mom's pretzel costume she found for the occasion.
Scotty and Natalia at the party with Natalia's gorgeous dirndl and a vest for Scotty courtesy of Natalia.
My mom tried to take a picture of Natalia and I with Darrin the band leader. Of course you can
guess who ruined it.
Even though this got over exposed, it's still a funny photo of Carl and Jen with Carl wearing
Dano's funny hat.
A bit better lighting of Carl and Jen - thanks Mom for the photo!
Arielle, Natalia, Jeanna, and Maria decided to participate in a stein-holding contest. They filled
1 L steins with water (weight 1 kg plus the stein) and made them hold their arms out until their elbows bent.
With elbows out. Natalia owned this contest and came home with Half Hitch gift cards as a trophy.
Stein holding contest with Natalia's tongue out. This was about the moment when Natalia knew she had
beaten the last lady standing. Dan is investigating really closely here too.
Better look at the stein-holding contest.
Rene dancing by himself
Kurt made an appearance as well on this night. Natalia had picked up some fun photo props
that Kurt played with.
The band played Happy Birthday to this old codger.
Natalia and I getting after it. You can hardly tell that we're both crazy sick and would've probably
been better suited to a night in the tub, but parties don't come like this every day and you have to
step it up. Big kudos to my amazing wife for all of the party preparations (great decorations, great cupcakes,
managing the household while sick while I went off gallavanting all week), and for looking gorgeous
in her dirndl too! Thanks Nati!
The whole party team for my birthday party, front row from L to R, Grandma G, Maria, Natalia, Arielle,
Alf, Janel, Pat, and in the back, Dan, me, Jen, Crazy Carl, Rene, Louis, Scotty, Rowley, Jeanna,
and Graham. What a great crew and thanks to everyone for taking the time to be with Natalia and I
for this fun party!
The steak, Japanese cabbage salad, and homemade garlic bread I made for my Mom and Nati the
day after the party. Not bad I'd say!
