Due to my friend Rene's insistence and my fiancee's extreme prodding, I decided to drag Carl
and I to Detroit to watch game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals.
So, we were hanging out in our regular pub, Molly Bloom's in Waterloo, when we spotted this sweet mullet. Sorry
for the darkness, but the curly beauty of this thing must be seen to be appreciated.
The day of the game, Carl drove down to Waterloo to have lunch and head into Detroit. Here we are on the patio of
the Huether waiting for Rene to finish up in the lab already. It turns out he has a slave driver in the lab so
he wound up driving on his own.
Carl and I picked up our tickets (thank you Stub Hub!) and wandered downtown Detroit after having a few pints
and a bite to eat. Incidentally, Nexus made this trip that much faster.
Here is some public art with Red Wings stuff on it.
Rene's friend Erica came along as well. They're both die-hard Wings fans but we didn't hold it against them.
In fact, I thought Erica's sign was so awesome that I had to take a photo. Erica, I know that Ron Maclean would
be delighted to attend your prom with him. Just write him a letter.
The boys at practice, taken from our 11th row seats. Did I mention that there were still seats available
the day of from Ticketmaster? Yeah, do you think that Detroit is suffering economically?
Here's Rene Marchand, thrilled to have the opportunity to see a Cup Final game.
Carl having a pint at the game. I think he lives on beer and chicken wings actually.
Yours truly before game time. As a side note, all these photos were taken with my new Blackberry Curve 8900. It's
awesome! Go out and buy 10 of them!
So after the first period, we realized that there were two open seats next to us in the lower bowl. We hollered at
Rene and Erica to come down and we let them sit in our seats while Carl and I squatted. Here are Rene and Erica
thrilled to be at the game.
As a side note, the Pens did lose this game 3-1 (as well as game 2 by the same score). We still have faith though.
LET'S GO PENS!! LET'S GO PENS!!
