Since it was Tim's last weekend in Oregon, I figured he needed to give outdoor climbing
another shot. We climbed at French's Dome, up by Zigzag, OR.

But first, here is a SWEET trophy that Keri Gorman made for Juan! Due to Juan's extreme incompetence
in operating and captaining a boat on the Deschutes, Keri felt he deserved this. For more on the rafting
trip, check out RAFTING and decide for yourself.

Tim, climbing up to me. I think I placed about 13 or 14 draws on the route. It's pretty good
but a little runout.

Tim joined me at the anchors and then I lowered him from here. He was a little sketched out
since he had gotten a little off route on the way up to meet me.

Tim tried to show how high he was off the ground. You can see the tops of the trees, Nadia!

Tim and I at the anchors chilling out. Even though Tim had effectively four pieces of protection on
himself (2 personals plus the two anchors that I was belaying him on), I don't think he let go of the
rock until he was ready to lower. In all fairness though, this shows how tough your first real outdoor
climb is. Most people absolutely don't want to trust the rope at all, so I belayed Tim from the top
so that I could talk him through the steps to coming down. He actually did a pretty good job for his
first full pitch-length.

We then spent the rest of the morning going up Giant's Staircase , which is about
160 feet long and finishes on the summit of the Dome. It goes at about 5.6, but 5.8 with the
variations I added. Here's Tim getting up to the top.

After warming up on French's, I took a few leads at Ozone, a cool new area off the Columbia.
