Since my good friend Carl Norum was to be married in San Francisco over the long
weekend, Natalia thought it appropriate to make the trip. We stayed with my
other friend Alex Goldhammer, toured the city, ran the Bay to Breakers, and
celebrating the marriage of Carl Norum and Mickey Levine.

This is Natalia on the top of Twin Peaks in San Fran. The fog and wind were just moving in
so the city isn't as bright behind her. However, the weather throughout the weekend was still
just shy of miraculous.

Full size
Some of the flavours of ice cream at Bi-Rite ice cream. The salted caramel was awesome (especially
with extra salty nuts!)

Full size
On Saturday, Alex toured us around, starting with the Golden Gate bridge. You couldn't ask for a better day.

Full size
Natalia and I at the Golden Gate Bridge, SF, CA.

Full size
I thought these plants were cool.

Full size
This is an example of one of the cables used in the suspension bridge. We watched a documentary on
the new Ironcutters bridge in Hong Kong on the weekend too, and the technology hasn't changed that much.

Full size
Nati on the bridge.

Full size
A great sign calling out a misdemeanor for launching an object or a "missle".

Full size
Nati and some of the sailboats in the Bay.

Full size
I thought this sign was awesome. Seriously, who would even think of it??

Full size
I told Natalia to look scared as we looked out to Alcatraz.

Full size
The plaque on the bridge. Finished in 1937, I can only imagine how difficult it was to build.

Full size
Nati and I by the main pillar.

Full size
A much more fun photo (thanks Alex!)

Full size
This guy actually ran out of gas on the bridge. Seriously. He simply covered his face in his hands
and then tried to back his way off the bridge. It didn't take more than a few minutes for the cops
and the tow truck to be on scene though.

Full size
Our next stop (after picking up sunscreen and flip-flops) was to head to China town.

Full size
This is a bank posing as a temple. Or maybe, it was a traditional Chinese bank that got bought.
Either way, I think it's cool.

Full size
I liked this Bank of America sign.

Full size
Signs advertising soy sauce pigeon. Mmmmm.

Full size
I took some photos for my brother of the seedier parts of the city.

This is near Chinatown where the beat poets used to hang out.

The Bay to Breakers Race

Full size
So, Alex convinced us that running the 12K Bay to Breakers race would be an experience. For
history of the race, click HERE . Here we are prepping with sunscreen and
stretches. Alex and his girlfriend Yael, along with Alex's brother Ben and Ben's wife Laura
started together.

Full size
For Alex and his mom Ruth, this was the 25th straight running of the race. Ruth actually made up
buttons for everyone to wear. Thanks Ruth!

Full size
Alex's brother Ben and his wife Laura drove down from Sacramento to join in.

Full size
The first runners were actually female. I think they were also Kenyan.

Full size
Here's the first group of men, also Kenyan.

Full size
The first non-Kenyan in the race.

Full size
The first "centipede". All of these people are running connected together.

Full size
You can start seeing the mass of humanity joining in. An estimated 80,000 people run the race
every year.

Full size
We jumped in shortly after the start (first corner) and you can see the mass of people behind us.

Full size
This is a group of centipedes in "naked" attire. I think this was a shout-out to the attempts
this year to try to clean up the whole affair. In fairness, I didn't see one keg throughout the
whole race.

Full size
This guy might have been my favourite - a Borat mankini!

Full size
Here's Nati and a great speedo.

Full size
... and then the nakedness started. I can't imagine this is that comfortable.

Full size
The first drag queen we saw on the course.

Full size
The salmon start at the top of the Hayes Street hill and then run backwards against the current.
Yes, I know, quite witty.

Full size
Natalia getting towards the top of the Hayes street hill. Wall-to-wall people as far as the eye can see.

Full size
Elvis made an appearance.

Full size
So did this guy. He's my new mustache hero.

Full size
Erik Olson, this guy's hat is for you.

Full size
Another "Bare to Breakers" participant.

Full size
A couple of nudists. I like the fanny pack.

Full size
These people were promoting breast cancer research - "Save the Boob".

Full size
This lady hurt the eyes.

Full size
These two ladies were cheering people on from the sidelines.

Full size
Crazy balloon people.

Full size
Superman and Superwoman.

Full size
Two naked runners, one with a bad tattoo.

Full size
Naked married couple and Natalia.

Full size
Natalia and naked guy with fanny pack.

Full size
The stars of Reno 911. Nice shorts!

Full size
This might be one of my favourite photos of the race. This guy even smiled for me.

Full size
The windmill meant we were at the Beach and almost done.

Full size
Natalia and the Pacific Ocean.

Full size
Natalia and I after crossing the finish line. It was quite warm for a run, but the day was
definitely worth it!

Full size
Natalia, Yael, and Alex after the finish line.

Full size
Some of the Bare to Breakers team. I like the yellow hats. Like they need something else to
attract attention!

Full size
There were a number of displays and people hawking and giving things away. Here's Alex with
Barack Obama.

Full size
Natalia and I took our photo with the current leader of the free world as well.

Full size
On the way back for dim sum, we watched a few more groups. Here's me and Spongebob Squarepants.

Full size
Alex posed as well.

Full size
I took this photo for my friend Sasha.

Levine/Norum wedding

The program

Full size
Carl and the presider.

Full size
Mickey and her dad making an entrance.

Full size
Mickey and Carl on their big day.

Full size
After the service (9 minutes!) we took a few photos at the site since the golf course has such
excellent views.

Full size
Yes, Jason, Natalia continues to love my tie.

Full size
Carl's brother Stephen was the best man.

Full size
Great expression on Mickey's face as they come in for the reception.

Full size
The reception and dance was a blast. Here Carl and Mickey are thrust into the air on chairs in
a Jewish wedding ritual. All the best to both of them in their lives together!
