Our guide to our AST1 course, Doug, invited me to join his last minute trip up to
Purcell Mountain Lodge near Golden. After much deliberation, I decided to join and
get some turns in. Here are our photos and videos.

Here is our caravan for the weekend - a beautiful Bell 407 helicopter from Alpine Helicopters in Golden, BC.

This is the view of Kicking Horse resort from the air at a little after 9 in the morning.

The week before we arrived, the avalanche conditions had been a little dicey, so I was on the lookout
as we choppered into the lodge. Here you can see a small crown had slid.

I think this is the Dogtooth group that had also failed.

Full size
Another big cut. With examples of recent failures, we were planning to be pretty conservative.

A great view looking past the front range of the Purcells.

The first view I've had of the east face of Glacier National Park.

I thought the liquor cabinet at Purcell was pretty impressive.

This is an old Playtoy board game from sometime in the 70s I think.

A nice view from the lodge on a clear morning.

This is the honeymoon suite, also so-named due to the honey pot (or sewage treatment plant) below the
building.

All of our crew joined for the adventure since Doug set such a nice up track. From front to back, we have
Gunther, Glenn, Kevin, Ros, Phyllis, and

Looking into some bowls that aren't often skied until later in the year.

A really nice picture of Kevin with Mt Sir Donald hiding behind the clouds.

Full size
A little sunlit, but a cool day to be skiing with bluebird skies.

After telling us that 'he's not really a good skier', Doug actually hit the deck in a tree well. He's
a far better skier than he'll ever tell you though.

A nice shot of Gunther in Knee Grinder Trees.

Full size
I finally got a shot of Mt Sir Donald, even if it is after dusk.

Our second day had a little bit whiter conditions. Here we are leaving the lodge.

Full size
A good photo of Gunther with frozen hair.

Full size
I'm told it's not that often that this guy smiles. A good day was had by all.

I thought this big tree ball of snow was funny. Especially with Gunther right below it.

Kevin and Doug, enjoying the uptrack. Kevin enjoyed it a lot more with less heavy clothes.

The inside of Purcell's micro hydro plant that produces electricity for the lodge.

Any lodge or hut always looks amazing at the end of a touring day.

It looks a little chilly here, but it was a great day to ski.

Full size
I think this is right as I skied past Doug in the Burn.

Full size
I'm a little ways back in my stance, but still loving the snow.

Some pretty nice snow indeed.
