Here are some photos and video from our summer vacation to the Pacific Northwest.

Full size
First, a couple of photos prior to leaving. Here is Henry loving playing with his helicopter at the
big park. We found a bunch of dog poo on the slide and called it in.

Full size
Here's the town park guy hosing down the slide. Henry thought it was awesome.

Full size
Day 1 took us through Radium Hot Springs where Henry really enjoyed the water. This is at the Husky
Truck Stop, somewhere we had previously taken my Grandma Banda. I don't think we'll likely stop again
anytime soon though. Dinner on this night though in Sandpoint, ID was AWESOME. A strong recommendation
to go again to the Loafs and Ladle restaurant and have the chicken and waffles again.

Full size
We overnighted in Sandpoint, ID at the Round Lake State Park. Even though we woke up to rain, we
still had an enjoyable time. Henry got to see a heron on the docks as well as a trout.

Full size
Here is breakfast is Coeur d'Alene where Natalia decided to have coconut cream pie.

Leavenworth, WA

Full size
We proceeded from Idaho to Leavenworth, where we had a house rented with Paul and Allison. Here are
their girls and Henry playing on the swing set.

Full size
We spent some time at Lake Wenatchee and let the kids run around on the beach and in the playground.
Henry enjoyed running around, as usual.

Full size
Henry and Mommy on the beach. It wasn't super warm so it was good to have sweaters.

Full size
We took a short hike at Hidden Lake, just up from Lake Wenatchee. Here's Paul and Elly in the backpack.

Full size

Full size
As usual, Henry's most fun is in throwing rocks into the lake.

Full size
One of the times that Henry walked and wasn't in the backpack.

Full size
Dinner at Andreas Keller. Henry wasn't amazing for dinner. Natalia got to try jaegerschnitzel for
the first time and enjoyed it.

Tamaya rolling down the hill in Leavenworth

Full size
A cool shot of alp horns in the mountain town of Leavenworth. It's too bad that it's ~11 hours from
home to get here though.

Full size
The kids playing video games, kind of.

Full size
It was really cute watching the girls interact with Henry. It was clear that Tamaya was playing a mothering
role and would often try to tell Henry and Elly what to do. That was only marginally successful.

Full size

Full size
A great photo of Henry, Elly, and Tamaya on rocking chairs.

Full size
After getting out of our rental by 10, we went to the Gingerbread Factory in Leavenworth for some 'cafe und kuchen'.
The kids loved the gingerbread as you can see by Henry's intent focus on these cookies.

Full size
The kids checking out the gingerbread house.

Full size
The German cookie couple that Natalia really liked.

Full size
Henry got a gingerbread train, which he was really excited about, until he broke it in half and lost his mind.

Mount Rainier National Park

Full size
Enroute from Leavenworth, we stopped in Yakima for a later lunch. It turns out that Miner's Drive-in is
good, if by good, you mean the burgers are bigger than Henry's head and not that good.

Full size
Henry at our campsite in Cougar Rock. A note that Paul caused an epic camping fail by forgetting to pack
extra propane bottles.

Full size
This is how the Cougar Rock site manages grey water. It was actually pretty slick.

Full size
Natalia was thrilled to see a 'No Pets' sign on all of the hiking trails. I took a photo for posterity. This
is on the 'Trail of the Shadows' near Longmire. We also saw a baby deer (maybe a few weeks old) nursing with
deer Mama.

Full size
Henry and I and Mount Rainier, from the suspension bridge on Nisqually River.

Full size
We went up to the Paradise Visitor's Centre, which is super cool. Henry was much more interested in crushing
the snow than he was in too much else. This boy loves winter for sure.

Full size
Henry, Natalia, and Mount Rainier. This did really feel like a bigger version of Timberline on
Mount Hood except for the lack of a creepy Steven King hotel there. The Paradise area was maybe a week or
two away from full-speed wildflowers, which would be really cool up here.

Full size
We took a short hike as we were leaving Mount Rainier, and went up Kautz Creek. Natalia was really pleased
with the size of the trees. She'd like the crosswise cut of this tree as a table.

Henry walking with a stick in the forest

Henry 'curvy-walking' with his mommy

Full size
Henry and I at our hiking turn-around point for the day. The creek bed here is filled with mud from a major
mudflow a few years ago. It was so strong that it actually moved the creek to a different drainage.

Centralia, WA

Full size
We came down from the mountain down to a little antique town called Centralia. The nominal reason we chose
Centralia was to cut down on the drive to the Coast, and to see another McMenamin's property. The town wasn't
much to speak of (20+ antique stores, lots of bars, but not much else), although their kids' playground was
super nice and sitting in a huge forest, even though I5 was right next door.

Full size
How great is this photo? The sweater is made by our family friend Carolyn, and Henry is really looking older here.

Full size
We gave him a bucket as a prop and he mostly threw it around.

Full size
Here's Henry reading Natalia's vacation fiction on the hotel bed in Centralia. Pretty funny that he wants
to be like Mommy. Not quite as funny as THIS photo though.

Oregon Coast

Full size
Our next stop was Seaside on the Oregon Coast, but first we swung though Portland for a sushi lunch with Chris
and Max. It's rare to get four people to smile at the same time, so this photo is rare.

Full size
And then BOOM, we did it again!

Full size
The sweet bedspread in the kid's room at our beach house.

Full size
Henry LOVED the beach. He really liked the sand, and he also liked to throw the sand.

Full size
The old school Aquarium in Seaside is nice, if a bit run-down and ancient. But, Henry liked being able to see fish,
crabs, and seals, and in general, it's worth the price of admission ($8).

Full size
This hat I thought was funny since after I took it off Henry, he had filled his pants.

Full size
This may be one of my new favourite Henry and Natalia photos. Taken at Indian Beach, OR.

Full size
We decided to get some non-beach time and go for a hike at Ecola State Park. Henry started out walking
but swiftly wound up in the backpack.

Full size
The Clatsop Loop was pretty neat in that we got up pretty high on Tillamook Head, and then looped back through
the forest at ground level of a lot of huge Sitka spruce trees.

Full size
Family selfie!

face, but it's funny.

Full size
Every morning we woke up in Seaside, Henry would say, "I want to go to the BEACH!" So we did.
The beach house we had (Sea Star Inn) was REALLY nicely set up for kids, including having beach toys
and this wagon for going to the beach.

Full size
Our friends Ross and Kelli toured out to Seaside enroute to Newport (not really on the way) so that our kids
could play together. After a candy store stop for suckers, here are Ryan, Kira, and Henry playing with
a funhouse mirror.

Full size
All kids with suckers. Kira looks a lot like my sister Renee at that age.

Full size
A really nice photo of my beautiful wife on Canada Day 2016 in Seaside, OR. A similar trip when we were on the
Oregon Coast was HERE .
Hard to believe that the earlier trip was 11 years ago!

Full size
Natalia thought that seeing 'All Dressed' chips in the US was hilarious.

Full size
Check out the note on the back.

Portland, OR

Full size
Coming back in from the Coast, we stopped to see Jeff and Lisa and their Sloane and Zane for lunch (no photos).
We went through the Portland Saturday Market, had a stroll through rougher Portland (stupid city council making
camping legal for the homeless), and ate street cart Thai dinner. On the next day, we took Henry to the
Children's Museum to meet up with Jason and Avie, Porter and Oliver. Here's Henry in the grocery section of
the store.

Full size
He really liked the little cart and the food items.

Full size
Playing in the water area.

Full size
Playing with the steering wheel.

Henry at the water area of the Children's Museum

Full size
The boys really enjoyed the train table (another pooping episode), along with the water area. The next favourite
was the outdoor play area where the boys got to play with massive bubbles. Porter was the 'big kid' and got to
operate the big bubble throwing rope dealio.

Full size
Henry saw the 1909 steam train outside the World Forestry Centre and had to have a closer look.

Full size
How happy is this boy with trains?

Full size
Yup, that is a genuine smile.

Full size
Henry loved playing with the fountains and splash park along the Portland Waterfront.
