My brother Denis and his wife Leah invited my family to spend Thanksgiving with
them in Swift Current this year. We graciously accepted since my family's events
tend to have a high ratio of awesome food to not-awesome food. This event was no
different in that respect.
My brother decided to pick up a turkey fryer this year to try cooking a turkey in a slightly
different way. Here is my brother-in-law Justin checking out the goods. Also, note the smoker
behind Justin since that was also going on while we fried food.
One of the reasons to go to Swift Current this year was to see Denis and Leah's new renovations.
In place of the concrete mess that previously connected to the garage, they filled in the space
with some new wood art that will eventually house sweet ivy. Here's my mom checking it out.
On the menu on day 1 was deep-fried Mars bars (a huge let-down), deep-fried pickles (not as
good as others we've had), and corn-dogs, which were AWESOME! Here is a corn-dog, being hand-dunked
in awesome boiling oil.
The finished corn dog, along with a mess of Mars bar.
How much better can you get than a corn dog and a Pil for your 33rd birthday?
Justin also gives this a strong approval.
My mom is not known for turning down a hot dog. She also enjoyed a corn dog.
Deep fried pickles gets about a 5 out of 10. Denis' criterion for judging deep fried food was,
"Does it make the food better?" In this case, I'd rather eat the pickle without frying.
Here is my nephew Luc enjoying a Mars bar without frying.
Denis also gave sweet potatoes a try. Without batter, and with salt, this is a winning combination.

One thing Luc likes to do is to ride his mom's scooter in the backyard. No comments here Denis about
the lack of helmets, but look at that smile.
He's clearly not enjoying himself at all here.
My brother is in the middle of a re-election campaign and so his son is decorated with Denis'
buttons. If you look around, you'll also find some shamelessly self-promoting T-shirts that his
son wears too.

My sister Renee does NOT like these stickers on the back of peoples' cars. If I can directly quote
her: "I DON'T care if you went to Disneyland, or that you have a dog, DON'T PUT IT ON YOUR CAR!"
So, naturally, I put some stickers on her car when she wasn't looking.
So, after watching a few of my man Bill Shatner's videos about the dangers of turkey frying,
(thanks Donni for the heads up on this), we decided to go ahead in a safe way. Here are Denis
and Leah handling the bird - Gertrude - before she heads into some hot oil. We also hit up some
wicked deep fried cheese before the bird went in.

Natalia took some photos of the great spread at the Swift Current Perrault household. Check out
the great mushroom sauce and amazing turkey!
And it wouldn't be Thanksgiving without pickled awesomeness too.
Here's a poorly-timed and blurry timed shot of our family (minus Danielle, Dalen, and Landon) just
before we sat down to eat. My aunty Colette, uncle Rick, and Kali joined from Medicine Hat, and
my grandma made the trip from Ponteix too.
Here's Luc playing on the slide in the park before we drove home.
Of course he doesn't have any fun at all!
